Event Overview
The Canberra Kids Triathlon is held on Sunday, 19 April 2026 at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra. ACT Triathlon runs age-based swim-bike-run races for juniors, with separate starts for 7–9, 10–12, 13–14, and 15–18 year categories. The program runs from 7:00am to 12:00pm, with a pool swim followed by bike and run segments around the AIS precinct. Course maps and timings may change closer to race day.
What the Course Demands
This event is structured to be straightforward to navigate, beginning with a pool swim and continuing onto a closed-loop bike course around AIS roads before a clearly marked run to the finish. With short overall durations across all age groups, smooth transitions and keeping effort controlled are key execution demands. The separate waves by age help manage congestion, but athletes should still be ready for busy points around mounts, dismounts, and turns.
Who This Event Suits Best
It suits juniors who want a supported introduction to triathlon as well as kids returning for a short, well-managed race. The 7–9 and 10–12 options align with first-time participation and basic confidence in all three disciplines. Older juniors in the 13–14 and 15–18 categories get a longer format that rewards steady pacing and good event-day organisation without requiring long-distance endurance.
