Event Overview
Cardiac Challenge is a three-day cycling event held in Far North Queensland, running from 19–21 September 2026. The ride covers a total of 319km, finishing in Cooktown after departing the Cairns region. Day 1 offers multiple start options, including a route that climbs the Kuranda Range, as well as shorter alternatives that begin from Kuranda or Mareeba. The event is organised as a fundraising ride supporting cardiac care in the region.
What the Course Demands
Across the three days, the course is built around sustained time in the saddle and repeated climbing, including a Day 1 option that takes in the Kuranda Range. Riders should be prepared for long stages and a steady progression through different terrain between Cairns, Mount Carbine, Lakeland and Cooktown. Group riding is a feature from Mareeba onward, with packs forming and scheduled regroup points used to manage the day.
Who This Event Suits Best
This event suits cyclists who are comfortable with consecutive long days and who can manage pacing across a multi-stage ride. It can also work for developing riders who want a structured, supported challenge, as Day 1 includes shorter starting options that reduce the overall load. Participants who prefer organised logistics and riding in packs, rather than fully independent touring, tend to fit the format well.
