Event Overview
Monaro Cloudride is an individual time trial (ITT) route completed solo and self-supported, with riders effectively racing the clock over approximately 1000km through the Monaro region and Australian Alps. A suggested annual start time is 6:00am on Easter Good Friday from BentSpoke Brewing Co in Braddon, ACT, and riders can commence any time after that. The clock runs continuously with no checkpoints or mandated rest periods. Riders follow a GPX route and progress is tracked on the Maprogress platform using a GPS tracker or a phone with a Telstra SIM.
What the Course Demands
This is a long-duration, self-managed ride where endurance, navigation and equipment reliability are central to completion. Riders are expected to follow the provided GPX route, with deviations requiring a return to the point of departure to remain compliant. As an ITT, logistics are handled by the rider, including resupply and accommodation using commercially available services. The rules emphasise unsupported riding between towns, with no pre-arranged private assistance.
Who This Event Suits Best
Monaro Cloudride suits experienced endurance cyclists who are comfortable riding solo for extended periods and managing decisions without on-course support. It best fits riders with proven pacing discipline, confident bike handling over variable terrain, and the ability to keep tracking and navigation systems operating for the full duration. It is less appropriate for first-time ultra-distance riders or those seeking a marshalled event environment.
