Event Overview
The Cut Ultra Marathon is a timed elimination-format running event held at the Gold Coast Cycle Centre in Nerang (Gold Coast), Queensland. The 2026 edition is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, with a 10:30am start (race briefing at 10:25am). Distances aren’t fixed in the usual way: participants continue through successive laps while runners are cut along the way, with the event capped at 50km. A Junior Cut is also staged during the day.
What the Course Demands
This event rewards athletes who can repeatedly settle quickly into pace after each reset and handle the uncertainty of changing lap direction or layout. Eliminations begin early (the first cut is noted as around lap 7), and breaks are built into the schedule, so rhythm management matters as much as raw speed. For the main event, reaching longer totals requires sustaining output across multiple phases up to the 50km limit.
Who This Event Suits Best
The Cut Ultra suits runners who enjoy competitive, tactical formats and can stay composed as the field thins. It can work for athletes targeting anything from a solid 10.5km minimum through to the full 50km cap, depending on performance on the day. There are age-based rules, including a minimum age of 12 for the main event and a Junior Cut for ages 10–16, with 12–15 year olds cut at 21km.
