Event Overview
The Hume + Hovell Ultra is a trail running weekend based at Henry Angel Trackhead, around 9km south of Tumbarumba in NSW. The event uses sections of the Hume & Hovell Walking Track, following the historic 1824 route of Hamilton Hume and William Hovell. For Race Weekend 2026, the program lists 11km, 22km, 50km, 100km and a 100km relay on Saturday 10 October, with a Kids Dash and presentations scheduled on Sunday 11 October.
What the Course Demands
Across distances, the course combines sustained climbs and descents with remote sections where access can be limited. The 11km route is a shorter out-and-back with around 160m of gain/loss, while the 22km includes a longer climb over Mount Garland and totals about 700m of climbing. The 50km steps up to roughly 1490m gain, and both 100km options list around 2500m gain with a 24-hour cutoff.
Who This Event Suits Best
This event suits runners who prefer longer, varied efforts away from built-up areas and who are comfortable moving between aid stations for extended periods. The 11km is positioned as an entry point for first-time trail runners and families. The 22km and 50km are better matched to athletes with prior endurance experience. The 100km ultra has a stated qualifying requirement, while the relay format fits teams of 2–4 sharing the workload.
